Three attractive blocks of grazing country overlooking the Akaroa inner harbour are for sale, providing a rare chance for buyers keen to secure a slice of land on Banks Peninsula.

Bayleys Canterbury rural salesperson Ben Turner says the three blocks total 320 hectares (more or less) and buyers have the option of purchasing one, two or all three.

Turner says the proximity to Christchurch will be appealing to city dwellers looking for a rural haven, less than an hour’s drive from the city, to enjoy the privacy and security of their own get-away, tucked away in the hills overlooking the ocean.

“There’s lots of established native bush in many of the paddocks, access is excellent with four-wheel-drive farm tracks throughout, and lots of springs and creeks really add to the back-to-nature feel if that’s what you’re after,” he says.

“There’s interest already from families looking for a retreat from city life who are keen to create a simple hut or something more substantial to enjoy the views and all the benefits of country life on the Peninsula.”

Akaroa township is also close by with plenty of choice if cafes, restaurants and shopping is appealing.

Banks Peninsula is a haven for active relaxers who love walking, running or biking the many kilometres of tracks which provide access to the beaches and hill tops.

If golf is your favourite sport, the Duvauchelle Golf Course is nearby and there is plenty of scope for boating and fishing on the water, adding to the appeal of this location.

“The beauty of this location for Christchurch city people is they can finish work on Friday evening and within an hour they can drive to their own spot in the hills overlooking the harbour.

“I can see these blocks appealing to that type of buyer, wanting to enjoy all the Peninsula has to offer like biking and water sports, a Saturday night dinner at the Duvauchelle pub then back to their off-grid pad in the hills.”

The smaller of the three blocks is 35 hectares (subject to survey) of easy, rolling country.

It comes with a substantial five-bedroom home, in-ground swimming pool and expansive views of the surrounding hills. There are pockets of native bush with plenty of bird life and creeks for a family to enjoy.

This block also has its own workshop and utility shed, plus a set of cattle yards.

The other two blocks are 102 hectares and 183 hectares in size (also subject to survey) and both come with council approved building sites for buyers looking for a more substantial holding.

Both blocks are rolling to steep hill country suitable for grazing. They are well tracked and subdivided with a range of post and wire fences, and some deer fencing, and good natural water from springs and creeks.

The smaller of the two blocks has a three-stand woolshed and yards, plus a two-bay hay shed.

Turner says both the larger blocks have excellent shelter for livestock from the native bush and natural contour.

“One option would be for someone to buy both the larger titles, build a set of cattle yards and create a good-sized grazing block that could be run in conjunction with existing farmland,” he says.

Offers are invited by deadline sale closing at noon on April 15 at the Bayleys Christchurch office at 3 Deans Avenue, Addington.
